India's data surge to drive 1.1 bn 5G connections by 2031: Ericsson
India, June 16 -- India's telecom story is increasingly becoming one of scale, speed and changing digital behaviour, with more than 1.1 billion 5G subscriptions expected by 2031, according to the latest edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report (EMR). Yet beyond the headline number, the report suggests a broader transformation is already underway, one where India's expanding appetite for mobile data and advanced network capabilities could redefine how connectivity is used.
The June 2026 edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report projects that 5G subscriptions in India will account for 81% of all mobile subscriptions by the end of 2031, underscoring the country's rapid migration away from legacy technologies.
