India, Aug. 30 -- India is set to raise the permissible electromagnetic field (EMF) power-density limit for 5G mobile base stations from 5 watts per square metre (W/m²) to 10 W/m², bringing the country's limit in line with the level recommended by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP).

The revised rules are expected to take effect from September 2026. The change is primarily aimed at giving telecom operators greater flexibility in network planning as 5G traffic increases and operators work to improve coverage and capacity.
