India, July 30 -- The government is expanding its semiconductor skills programmes across chip design, fabrication, assembly, testing and advanced packaging as India seeks to build a workforce capable of supporting the entire semiconductor value chain.

As part of the Semicon India Programme and its successor, Semicon 2.0, the government said more than 100,000 engineers have been trained so far, while around 68,000 people have received training in chip design. A total of 175 chip designs have also been taped out at the Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL) in Mohali under the Chips to Startup (C2S) programme.
