Cabinet approves Rs 62,500 crore mobile manufacturing scheme
India, July 17 -- The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Mobile Phone Manufacturing Scheme (MPMS) with a budgetary outlay of Rs 62,500 crore, marking the government's next phase of support for India's fast-growing mobile manufacturing industry.
The new programme will run for five years from FY27 to FY31 and succeeds the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing (PLI-LSEM), which concluded on 31 March 2026.
The government said the MPMS is designed to expand production capacity, increase domestic value addition, strengthen supply chain resilience and improve India's competitiveness in global electronics manufacturing.
