India, Sept. 23 -- The rapid adoption of generative and agentic AI is expanding the enterprise attack surface beyond conventional user identities and applications, with autonomous systems increasingly able to access data, call APIs and execute actions across business workflows.

Akamai's latest State of the Internet (SOTI) Security report, Speed, Scale, and Nonhuman Identity: The Agentic Threat Landscape, argues that organisations now need to govern not only who or what has access to enterprise systems, but also what autonomous AI entities can do once inside them. The report identifies a shift from traditional identity and access management towards behavioural governance of nonhuman identities.
