Hanoi, June 23 -- Vietnam's athletics team further cemented its status as one of the region's leading forces after securing two gold medals at the 2026 Asian Relay Championships in China, surpassing its pre-tournament target.

Quartet Ta Ngoc Tuong, Vu Ngoc Khanh, Tran Dinh Son and Le Ngoc Phuc stunned onlookers with their win in the men's 4x400m event.

Facing strong rivals from India and Sri Lanka as well as their Chinese hosts, the Vietnamese runners were not considered title contenders. Even the most optimistic experts and supporters did not expect them to emerge victorious.
