Kuala Lumpur, July 8 -- Malaysia is planning to establish a transit centre capable of accommodating 1,000-2,000 foreign workers as part of efforts to strengthen migrant labour management, enhance security, and ease airport congestion.

Human Resources Minister R. Ramanan said on July 6 that the facility would temporarily accommodate foreign workers after they arrive in Malaysia and before they are collected by their registered employers.

The minister said the measure is intended to strengthen oversight of foreign workers' movements and prevent them from being taken away by unauthorised parties.
