Hanoi, Aug. 7 -- Eight people were killed and 15 others injured after a mini dump truck fell off a cliff in Sultan Kudarat province, south of the Philippines, on August 6.
The accident occurred in the afternoon, when the vehicle was travelling downhill on a highway in the town of Lebak.
According to police, the truck's brakes failed, causing the vehicle to lose control, hit concrete debris from an ongoing road construction project, and then plunged into a ravine.
The injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
In many rural areas of the Philippines, the use of mini dump trucks to transport people is still quite common despite risks to traffic safety./.
