New Delhi, Aug. 7 -- Private equity and venture capital investments surged this week, driven by a single healthcare deal that lifted the overall deal value, according to data compiled by VCCircle.

The aggregate value of PE-VC investments in the five-day period ended August 7 jumped nearly tenfold, with 27 firms raising more than $1.8 billion, the data showed. The number of deals also rebounded sharply after hovering at 13-17 transactions a week over the previous three weeks.

The last time the weekly PE-VC deal value exceeded $1 billion was in the final weeks of June.

PE-VC investors realized significant gains through exits, including open-market transactions and initial public offerings (IPO). Investment firms such as Bain Capital, Motilal Oswal Alternatives (MO Alts), TPG NewQuest and Quadria Capital achieved benchmark-beating returns.

Hospitals, engineering, and electric vehicles emerged as sectors attracting significant investment this week.

The largest transaction was KKR's $1.4 billion deal to acquire Swedish hospital operator Medicover's India business, as the US PE firm seeks to bolster its hospital platform in India.

The other major transaction was by Piramal Finance and Bain Capital-promoted India Resurgence Fund (IndiaRF), which acquired a controlling stake in Fine Edge Engineering for $210 million.

In a significant deal for electric vehicle providers, two-wheeler maker River Mobility secured $120 million in a Series C round led by Elev8 Venture Partners and Claypond Capital.

Other notable deals below $30 million this week were in the insurance, quick commerce, real estate and consumer segments. These included BlissClub, IIRM Holdings Ltd, a residential project by Bhumika Group, and HomeRun securing funding from investors such as Singularity AMC, Carpedium Capital, ASK Property Fund, and Nexus Venture Partners.

On the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) front, activity remained subdued despite the number of deals increasing to six from five last week, as larger transactions remained absent.

The biggest deal this week was Mumbai-listed Park Medi World acquiring Punjab-based Mehar Mediserve LLP for $11.2 million.

Other notable deals included consumer lending firm Purple Finance's $10 million acquisition of Saksham Gram Credit and automotive component maker Belrise Industries' takeover of German firm JOST Werke's Tipper Body Business in India.
