Today, Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) joined Senators Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.), Angela Alsobrooks (D-Md.), Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), Tim Kaine (D-Va.), and Mark Warner (D-Va.) in introducing legislation to protect federal workers' credit histories during a government shutdown. The Federal Worker Credit Protection Act of 2026 (https://www.kelly.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/SIL26663.pdf) would prevent harm to credit ratings because of missed or delayed payments when federal workers aren't getting paychecks, helping ensure federal workers are not financially penalized for circumstances beyond their control.
