ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,688,395, issued on July 21, was assigned to Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (Madison, Wis.).
"Neural network processor with on-chip convolution kernel storage" was invented by Jing Li (Madison, Wis.) and Jialiang Zhang (Madison, Wis.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A neural network processor architecture provides decompression circuitry that can exploit patterns of data in kernel weights of a convolutional neural net as flattened to a vector, the compression allowing reduced kernel data storage costs including on-chip-storage."
The patent was filed on Feb. 2, 2018, under Application No. 15/887,367.
