ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,551,403, issued on Feb. 17, was assigned to WestRock MWV LLC (Atlanta).

"Blister cavity opening feature" was invented by James D. Knotts (Glen Allen, Va.) and Marty Jones (Midlothian, Va.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A packaging comprising: (a) a blister having a cavity; (b) a foil disposed over an opening of the cavity and secured to the blister; and (c) a board disposed over the foil having a hole, wherein a shape of the hole is formed by an outer perimeter and the outer perimeter includes an opening feature that pierces or tears the foil during opening of the blister due to a force being applied to the opening feature."
