ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,497,659, issued on Dec. 16, was assigned to UNM RAINFOREST INNOVATIONS (Albuquerque, N.M.) and JEREMY SCOTT EDWARDS (Albuquerque, N.M.).

"Method of detecting inherited equine myopathy" was invented by Jeremy Scott Edwards (Albuquerque, N.M.), Paul Szauter (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Robert B. Sinclair (Ashville, N.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "This disclosure describes detecting genetically distinct kinds of inherited myopathies in horses, variously referred to as Polysaccharide Storage Myopathy type 2 (PSSM2), Myofibrillar Myopathy (MFM), or idiopathic myopathy."
