ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 26 -- United States Patent no. PP37,445, issued on May 26, was assigned to UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA RESEARCH FOUNDATION INC. (Athens, Ga.).
"Seashore paspalum plant named 'UGP 73'" was invented by Paul Raymer (Milner, Ga.) and Brian Schwartz (Tifton, Ga.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A new and distinct cultivar of Seashore Paspalum plant, botanically known as Paspalum vaginatum Swartz, named 'UGP 73', characterized by its excellent turf quality, excellent turf color, superior drought tolerance, and superior salt tolerance."
The patent was filed on April 17, 2025, under Application No. 19/181,402.
