ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,486,296, issued on Dec. 2, was assigned to Universal Display Corp. (Ewing, N.J.).

"Organic electroluminescent materials and devices" was invented by Pierre-Luc T. Boudreault (Pennington, N.J.), Suman Layek (Pennington, N.J.) and Bert Alleyne (Newtown, Pa.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided is a compound comprising a ligand LA havingwhere ring A is a 5-membered or 6-membered carbocyclic or heterocyclic ring; one of X1-X4 is C if linked to ring A; one of X1-X4 is N if adjacent to the linking C and coordinates to a metal M to form a five-membered chelate ring as indicated by the two dashed lines."
