ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 24 -- United States Patent no. 12,584,915, issued on March 24, was assigned to THE TRUSTEES OF INDIANA UNIVERSITY (Bloomington, Ind.).

"Glyphosate biosensor" was invented by Shahir S. Rizk (South Bend, Ind.), Maggie M. Fink (South Bend, Ind.) and Pierre Emmanuel Yoann N'Guetta (Carrboro, N.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed herein are engineered proteins for the detection of glyphosate in soil, water, and the like without the need for additional reagents."

The patent was filed on Aug. 3, 2020, under Application No. 17/628,056.
