ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 15 -- United States Patent no. 12,600,977, issued on April 14, was assigned to The Regents of the University of California (Oakland, Calif.).

"Plants and methods for producing 2-pyrone-4, 6-dicarboxylic acid (PDC)" was invented by Chien-Yuan Lin (Richmond, Calif.) and Aymerick Guillaume Eudes (Emeryville, Calif.).
