ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 7 -- United States Patent no. 12,595,575, issued on April 7, was assigned to The Board of Trustees of the University of Illinois (Urbana, Ill.).
"Electrochemical oxidation of methane towards methanol on mixed metal oxides" was invented by Meenesh R. Singh (Naperville, Ill.) and Aditya Prajapati (Chicago).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An electrochemical cell for conversion of methane to methanol includes a bimetallic catalyst having alternating regions of first and second metals thereby providing interfaces at which methane is converted to methanol or formate."
The patent was filed on Jan. 27, 2022, under Application No. 18/273,381.
