ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,686,490, issued on July 21, was assigned to Textron Innovations Inc. (Providence, R.I.).

"Compression-force spike reduction" was invented by Justin Birkey (Wichita, Kan.).
