US Patent Issued to Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson on June 23 for "Selective user plane protection in 5G virtual RAN" (Canadian, German Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 15 -- United States Patent no. 12,666,255, issued on June 23, was assigned to Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ) (Stockholm).

"Selective user plane protection in 5G virtual RAN" was invented by Stere Preda (Longueuil, Canada), Daniel Migault (Montreal), Amine Boukhtouta (Laval, Canada) and Xiaowen Yue (Herzogenrath, Germany).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Systems and methods for selective User Plane protection in a 5G virtual RAN are provided. A method performed by a gNB Central Unit (gNB-CU) for communicating with a gNB-Distributed Unit (gNB-DU) includes determining whether to selectively encrypt a PDU to be sent to the gNB-DU if the PDU is not otherwise encrypted.
