ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- United States Patent no. PP37,492, issued on June 30, was assigned to Sun World International LLC (Wasco, Calif.).
"Grapevine plant named 'SUGRA78'" was invented by Terry A. Bacon (Maplewood, N.J.) and Terrence J. Frett (Bakersfield, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The new variety of grapevine 'SUGRA78' is characterized by the production of a large-sized, red and obtuse ovate berry with a mid-season ripening date. The berries of 'SUGRA78' are very firm and very juicy."
The patent was filed on Sept. 2, 2025, under Application No. 19/316,883.
