ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 25 -- United States Patent no. 12,719,891, issued on Aug. 25, was assigned to Sophos Ltd. (Abingdon, Great Britain).

"Realtime event detection" was invented by William David Waghorn (Coquitlam, Canada).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An event handler implements a state machine or similar construct for processing of complex event chains as incremental events are detected. This approach advantageously limits processing to monitoring for and responding to a next event in a sequence of events, and supports complex event detection in a manner that scales efficiently in time and computation."

The patent was filed on Dec. 31, 2024, under Application No. 19/006,623.
