ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,403,331, issued on Sept. 2, was assigned to Smith & Nephew Inc. (Memphis, Tenn.).

"Medical device" was invented by Kevin J. Tanis (Collierville, Tenn.), Jin Zhang (Memphis, Tenn.) and Kelly Ann Umstead (Raleigh, N.C.).
