ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,488,948, issued on Dec. 2, was assigned to Sargent Manufacturing Co. (New Haven, Conn.).

"Latch bolt and strike plate with electrical conductor" was invented by Daniel Kilsdonk (Westford, Mass.) and Patrick Ryan (Shrewsbury, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A door latch includes a latch bolt and strike plate capable of transferring electricity therebetween. The latch bolt and strike plate may each include one or more complementary electrical leads such that electrical power and/or electrical signals may flow between the complementary electrical leads, when the electrical leads are in contact with one another."
