ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,607,182, issued on April 21, was assigned to Santa Clara University (Santa Clara, Calif.).

"Strain-actuated microfluidic pump sensor" was invented by Ismail Emre Araci (San Jose, Calif.), Caroline Barbar Askar (San Jose, Calif.) and Nick Cmager (Santa Clara, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A skin-strain-actuated microfluidic pump (SAMP) is provided that utilizes asymmetric aspect ratio of pumping channels for the recording of human activity in the fluidic domain."

The patent was filed on March 5, 2025, under Application No. 19/071,580.
