ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,552,721, issued on Feb. 17, was assigned to RTX Corp. (Farmington, Conn.).
"PVB-based sacrificial tackifier for CMC" was invented by John D. Riehl (Hebron, Conn.) and Kathryn S. Read (Marlborough, Conn.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A tackified ceramic fabric sheet includes a pre-preg layer having a fabric of woven ceramic tows and a tackifier compound surrounding the tows and comprising 15% to 60% polyvinyl butyral with ethanol. The sheet further includes a removable first backing film layer on a first side of the pre-preg layer."
The patent was filed on Oct. 12, 2023, under Application No. 18/379,297.
