According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A stroke of a piston of a pedal travel simulator is limited via a spring ring that is inserted into a circumferential groove in a cylinder of the pedal travel simulator. The spring ring relieves the load on a cover of the pedal travel simulator that closes the cylinder of the pedal travel simulator."
