ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 15 -- United States Patent no. 12,737,948, issued on Sept. 15, was assigned to Rivanna Medical Inc. (Charlottesville, Va.).
"Medical image augmentation" was invented by Frank William Mauldin (Troy, Va.), Adam Dixon (Charlottesville, Va.), Paul Sheeran (Waxhaw, N.C.), Kathryn Ozgun (Charlottesville, Va.) and Vicki Brothers (Elkton, Va.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A computerized method for augmenting digital medical images, including an apparatus and methods utilizing a machine-learning approach for generating an augmented medical image containing features within the boundaries of the source image that are missing from or distorted in the source image."
