US Patent Issued to Pioneer Hi-Bred International on Sept. 15 for "Parthenogenesis factors and methods of using same" (Iowa Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 15 -- United States Patent no. 12,735,718, issued on Sept. 15, was assigned to Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc. (Iowa).

"Parthenogenesis factors and methods of using same" was invented by Shane E. Abbitt (Ankeny, Iowa), Jon Aaron Tucker Reinders (Clive, Iowa) and Huaxun Ye (Johnston, Iowa).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Parthenogenesis is a natural form of asexual reproduction wherein growth and development of embryos occur without fertilization by sperm. Peptides are used as parthenogenesis factors, specifically comprising polypeptides or polynucleotides encoding gene products for generating doubled haploids or haploid plants from female gametes."
