ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 28 -- United States Patent no. 12,532,907, issued on Jan. 27, was assigned to Philip Morris Products S.A. (Neuchatel, Switzerland).

"Hydrophobic plug wrap" was invented by Clement Besso (Neuchatel, Switzerland), Aurelien Guyard (Pompaples, Switzerland) and Alen Kadiric (Orpund, Switzerland).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A smoking article includes a tobacco substrate and a filter segment comprising filtration material axially aligned in an abutting end to end relationship with the tobacco substrate. A hydrophobic plug wrap is disposed about the filtration material. The plug wrap is hydrophobic via hydrophobic groups chemically bonded to the plug wrap."
