ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 14 -- United States Patent no. 12,680,259, issued on July 14, was assigned to Penn-Troy Manufacturing Inc. (Troy, Pa.).

"Sealing and locking valve box lid" was invented by Michael Kafka (Troy, Pa.) and Merle Eiffert (Gillett, Pa.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A sealable and lockable valve box lid assembly provides a water-tight seal between the valve box and ground surface, is capable of supporting heavy downward loads created by vehicle traffic, and has a low vertical profile that is suitable for shallow valve box installations.
