ALEXANDRIA, Va., May 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,631,822, issued on May 19, was assigned to NTT INC. (Tokyo).
"Optical waveguide and method of manufacture thereof" was invented by Xuejun Xu (Tokyo), Takehiko Tawara (Tokyo) and Tai Tsuchizawa (Tokyo).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An optical waveguide includes a cladding layer, a Si layer, a REO layer, and a cap layer. The REO layer is made of a single-crystal rare earth oxide, and is formed on the Si layer. The cap layer is formed on the REO layer. The cap layer may be made of a material transparent to light to be guided. The cap layer has a stripe shape extending in a direction in which light is guided."
