ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,667,422, issued on June 30, was assigned to Northwestern University (Evanston, Ill.).

"Percutaneous retrieval system" was invented by Ahsun Riaz (Evanston, Ill.), Riad Salem (Evanston, Ill.) and Abhinav Talwar (Evanston, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided herein are devices, systems, and methods for the percutaneous removal of solid deposits from the gallbladder or kidney."

The patent was filed on Oct. 12, 2023, under Application No. 18/485,835.
