ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,498,159, issued on Dec. 16, was assigned to MiTeGen LLC (Ithaca, N.Y.).
"Cryogenic cooling apparatus, methods, and applications" was invented by David Closs (Freeville, N.Y.), Stephen Hollabaugh (Ithaca, N.Y.), Robert E. Thorne (Ithaca, N.Y.), Robert Newman (Groton, N.Y.) and Benjamin A. Apker (Ithaca, N.Y.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A cryogenic cooling manifold and methods incorporating a cryogenic cooling manifold for managing the gas layer(s) above a liquid cryogen to control cooling temperature-time profiles and ice formation for microliter and smaller samples that are plunged through the gas and into the liquid cryogen."
