ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,564,816, issued on March 3, was assigned to Merck Millipore Ltd. (Carrigtwohill, Ireland).

"Hydrophilic membranes" was invented by Jijun Ge (Burlington, Mass.), Xiaozhu Zhou (Burlington, Mass.) and Gabriel Tkacik (Burlington, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present application relates to an unsupported, permanently hydrophilic filtration membrane, and its method of formation. The membrane comprises a polymeric matrix material and a cross-linked polyoxazoline hydrophilic additive blended throughout said matrix material."

The patent was filed on Nov. 18, 2020, under Application No. 17/778,663.
