"Transparent polymer aerogels" was invented by Magi Mettry (Livermore, Calif.) and Tyler Martin Fears (Pleasanton, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A product includes a polymer aerogel. The aerogel is physically characterized by having a transparency greater than or equal to 90% transmission of visible light through a 3 mm thickness of the aerogel.
