ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,654,236, issued on June 16, was assigned to KENNAMETAL INC. (Latrobe, Pa.).
"Cutting tool with indicator substance" was invented by Christoph Gey (Neuhausen, Switzerland).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The invention relates to a cutting tool having at least one cavity arranged in the cutting tool, spaced apart from an outer contour of the cutting tool by a wear layer, wherein a thickness of the wear layer corresponds to a wear limit of the cutting tool, wherein an indicator substance is arranged in the cavity."
The patent was filed on Feb. 8, 2023, under Application No. 18/107,174.
