ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 15 -- United States Patent no. 12,603,832, issued on April 14, was assigned to Juniper Networks Inc. (Sunnyvale, Calif.).

"Resource reservation protocol (RSVP) U-turn detour label switched path (LSP)" was invented by Balaji Rajagopalan (Bangalore, India), Chandrasekar Ramachandran (Bangalore, India) and Vali Mohammed Sunesara (Mumbai, India).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "U-Turn detour paths, though the head-end router of a primary label switched path (LSP), are configured and used to enable fast failover to a secondary LSP, while avoiding reserving bandwidth (e.g., on links unused by primary and secondary paths) unnecessarily."
