ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,487,203, issued on Dec. 2, was assigned to International Business Machines Corp. (Armonk, N.Y.).

"Spiral impedance structure" was invented by Frank Robert Libsch (White Plains, N.Y.) and Venkat K. Balagurusamy (Airmont, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An impedance sensing structure is provided and includes a dielectric layer, a spiral electrode pair forming a dual spiral channel on the dielectric layer and having an inlet portion at a central region of the dual spiral channel and an outlet portion at an end of the dual spiral channel, inlet and outlet elements and sensing circuitry.
