According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A port is adapted to be implanted to a body with its top exposed to the environment. The port has a housing defining a chamber that has an opening at the top of the housing. An aperture having a lumen attached thereto is formed at the lower portion of the chamber.
