ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,552,938, issued on Feb. 17, was assigned to Howard Hughes Medical Institute (Chevy Chase, Md.).

"Deuterated fluorophores" was invented by Luke Lavis (Leesburg, Va.) and Jonathan B. Grimm (Ashburn, Va.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention is generally directed to the synthesis and use of fluorophores. It is more specifically directed to the synthesis and use of deuterated fluorophores. In one case, the present invention provides a compound of the structure shown in FIG. 44."

The patent was filed on Sept. 11, 2023, under Application No. 18/445,510.
