ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 7 -- United States Patent no. 12,672,661, issued on July 7, was assigned to Hill's Pet Nutrition Inc. (Overland Park, Kan.).

"Pet food compositions" was invented by Dayakar Badri (Lawrence, Kan.) and Dennis Jewell (Lawrence, Kan.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Described herein are pet food compositions comprising crude protein, carbohydrate, and dietary fiber consisting of insoluble fiber and soluble fiber is designed to shift the intestinal tryptophan metabolism of the companion animal from kynurenine pathway to indole pathway to produce indole derivatives. Methods of making and using the compositions are also described."
