ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 28 -- United States Patent no. 12,535,587, issued on Jan. 27, was assigned to Hewlett-Packard Development Co. LP (Spring, Texas).

"Object tracking" was invented by Guoxing Yang (Spring, Texas), Alexander Wayne Clark (Spring, Texas) and Robson Teles (Spring, Texas).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An example computing device includes a time of flight (ToF) sensor to generate frames of sensor data. The computing device includes a processor to: identify an object appearing in the frames; track a centroid of the object frame-by-frame; and determine whether a user is present within operating range of the computing device based on the tracking."
