ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 14 -- United States Patent no. 12,677,913, issued on July 14, was assigned to Heartland Footwear Inc. (South Bend, Ind.).

"Method of making footwear using molds" was invented by Afshin Enshaie (South Bend, Ind.) and Omar Rojas (South Bend, Ind.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Injection molded footwear having a flared sole is made using an injection molding method with two different molds. Both molds share the same shell and the same last, but have different plates. The first mold has a void for an upper and the second mold has a void for the flared sole in the shell."

The patent was filed on April 1, 2024, under Application No. 18/623,426.
