ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 14 -- United States Patent no. 12,684,790, issued on July 14, was assigned to GLOBALFOUNDRIES U.S. Inc (Malta, N.Y.).

"Bipolar transistors" was invented by Alexander M. Derrickson (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), Kaustubh Shanbhag (Slingerlands, N.Y.), Vibhor Jain (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Judson R. Holt (Ballston Lake, N.Y.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present disclosure relates to semiconductor structures and, more particularly, to bipolar transistors and methods of manufacture.
