ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,552,831, issued on Feb. 17, was assigned to GlaxoSmithKline Biologicals SA (Rixensart, Belgium).

"Saponin purification" was invented by Carine Berthe Ghislaine De Kesel (Rixensart, Belgium), Chad Austin Farrenburg (Hamilton, Mont.), Jeri Kay Sandvick (Hamilton, Mont.) and Jeb Yeatts Vandenburg (Hamilton, Mont.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Saponin extracts containing at least 88% QS-21 main peak and less than3% to 10% 2018 component by UV absorbance at 214 nm, methods for making said extracts, their use as vaccine adjuvants and related aspects."

The patent was filed on June 3, 2020, under Application No. 17/615,254.
