ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 7 -- United States Patent no. 12,595,496, issued on April 7, was assigned to Genomatica Inc. (San Diego).

"Enzymatic biosynthesis of lactones" was invented by Andreas W. Schirmer (Hayward, Calif.), Katherine Ann Murphy (San Diego) and Angelica Zabala Bautista (San Diego).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The disclosure relates to methods for the production of natural lactones by bacteria under physiological conditions. The methods employ ybgC proteins having lactonizing activity."

The patent was filed on Jan. 15, 2020, under Application No. 17/420,908.
