ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 14 -- United States Patent no. 12,683,227, issued on July 14, was assigned to FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES LLC (Dearborn, Mich.).

"Battery pack with energy absorbing end plate" was invented by Amar Marpu (Canton, Mich.) and Joshua Putman Styron (Canton, Mich.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An end plate for a vehicle battery pack is specially designed to span multiple rows of battery cells and to protect the cells if an object strikes the side of the vehicle. The end plate includes a curved front wall, a flat rear wall, and several cantilevered struts perpendicular to the rear walls.
