ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,606,694, issued on April 21, was assigned to Eastman Chemical Co. (Kingsport, Tenn.).
"Foamable cellulose acetate compositions, foams and foam articles formed therefrom" was invented by Wayne Ken Shih (Marysville, Wash.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A foamable composition comprising at least one cellulose acetate, a plasticizer, a nucleating agent, either a chemical blowing agent or a physical blowing agent, and natural fibers is disclosed. The foamable composition is melt-processable, thermoformable, and biodegradable. The composition is formed into foamed articles that are biodegradable."
