ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 31 -- United States Patent no. 12,588,664, issued on March 31, was assigned to CRYSTAL BIOSCIENCE INC. (Emeryville, Calif.).

"Production of antibodies by modification of an autonomous heavy chain variable domain by gene conversion" was invented by William Don Harriman (Alameda, Calif.) and Philip A. Leighton (San Francisco).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "This disclosure provides, among other things, a transgenic animal that uses gene conversion for antibody diversification, comprising B cells in which the endogenous immunoglobulin heavy chain locus comprises: (a) a functional immunoglobulin heavy chain gene comprising a nucleic acid encoding an autonomous heavy chain (AH...
